On November 3 Baku Sabail District Court, chaired by Zaur Aliyev, completed consideration of the claim of human rights defender, arrested Rasul Jafarov against the JSC Bank Respublika.
The reason for the claim is that the bank, according to Jafarov, blocked his card before making a formal court decision to freeze the accounts of human rights activist. So, on July 6, 2013 this year while on a business trip in Kiev, Jafarov could not use a credit card to pay for your stay. The court decision to freeze the accounts was made only July 7.
Jafarov said that the bank has not fulfilled obligations to him by client service, and caused him moral and material damage. Jafarov demanded from the defendant as compensation for material damage of 100 manat, and moral damages 10 thousand manat.
However, the court ruled in favor of the defendant, dismissed the claim.
Jafarov intends to file an appeal. Jafarov was arrested on August 2 on charges of illegal business, tax evasion and abuse of office. He denies the charges. On October 23 court extended for another three months period of Jafarov’s arrest. Amnesty International recognizes Jafarov “prisoner of conscience.”
*Jafarov was arrested on 2 August. He was charged under articles 192 (illegal business), 213 (tax evasion) and 308 (abuse of power). He denies the charges and says they are politically motivated.
Human Rights Watch recognized him “a prisoner of conscience.
What does Jafarov think of the possible customers of his arrest?
“In contrast to those, who give instructions to our arrests and execute them, we do not live for revenge. For us it is important to ensure the rule of law, justice, and the accession of other democratic principles. We will continue to work in this direction,” said Jafarov.
